Dr. Norio Kasahara is the Chief of Party for Strengthening Pharmaceutical Systems Associate Award in Afghanistan. In addition to managing the project, which aims to expand health commodity security and improve patient safety and appropriate medicine use at the point of service delivery, Dr. Kasahara also serves as a member of several technical committees chaired by the Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) contributing to the health systems strengthening. Prior to joining MSH, he served as the Senior Technical Advisor for EU-funded Technical Cooperation Program for the MoPH, where he oversaw sub-national public health planning and budgeting in 34 provinces in Afghanistan. He also worked for 7 years as Project Formulation Advisor and Health Planning Advisor seconded by with the Japan International Cooperation Agency for the Ministry of Health in Malawi and MoPH in Afghanistan. He performed a number of short-term public health consultancy services in Malaysia, Bangladesh, Fiji, Zambia, Kenya and South Africa. Dr. Kasahara holds a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (Seattle, WA) and MPH in International Health (Baltimore, MD).
