    Dr. Cristian C. Baeza

    Senior Fellow at MSH

    Dr. Cristian C. Baeza, MD, MPH, Executive Director of the Center for Healthy Development (CHD) and Senior Fellow at MSH, works extensively on global health care financing and health systems, having advised more than 40 countries and social health insurance institutions in Latin America, Asia, Eastern Europe, and the Middle East and Africa. He has been a senior contributing member to numerous multilateral initiatives on health systems and health financing, including the World Commission on Macroeconomics and Health, the Global Forum for Health Sector Reform, and the World Economic Forum. He has also advised USAID, the World Bank, the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB), the International Labor Organization (ILO), the World Health Organization, the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, and UKAID/DFID (currently Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office) on universal health coverage, global health architecture and financing, and health systems policy and financing. 

    In addition to his current position, he has held multiple senior positions in global health: head of the Health, Nutrition and Population Practice of the World Bank; CEO of the Chilean National Health Insurance Fund (FONASA); partner at McKinsey & Company in the health systems and services practice in emerging markets; and Director General of International Financing and Health Sector Reform at the Ministry of Health of Chile. Dr. Baeza holds a Medical Doctor degree from the University of Chile, a master of public health from Johns Hopkins University, a completed master in the neurosciences program from the University of Chile, and a completed master level program in development and social policy economics from El Instituto Latinoamericano para el Desarrollo Sostenible (ILADES).
