MSH Staff contributes to report on Revising Indonesia’s Public Health Laws

BOSTON, MA (JANUARY 12, 2004) — Management Sciences for Health’s (MSH) Ritta-Liisa Kolehmainen-Aitken and MSH Consultant, Liz Newby, contributed to the recent report, "The Content and Uses of Health Laws: An Overview of Selected International Models and Lessons Learned for Possible Application in Indonesia." Additional authors include Chandrawilla Supriadi and Broto Wasisto. The report consists of a review of the use of health laws in Australia, Finland, Malaysia, Netherlands, New Zealand, the Philippines, Spain, Thailand, the United Kingdom, and the United States.

Amid Death, A Model for Hope

In Afghanistan, a general can look like an angel of mercy Christopher Scott Acumen, Volume II, Number I In Afghanistan's cities, it might as well be the 19th century; in the countryside, even earlier-at least, in terms of medical care. Hundreds of thousands of Afghan women, children, and infants will die unnecessarily this year. The death of so many seems anachronistic because, while epidemic and starvation are quite possible in this country, they will not, in fact, be the principal cause. The real culprit will be the lack of modern medicine, and that is perhaps the greatest tragedy.
