The 7th South African AIDS Conference

June 9, 2015 - 12:00am - June 12, 2015 - 12:00am
Durban International Conference Center, 45 Bram Fischer Rd, Durban, 4001, South Africa

South Africa has the most people living with HIV in the world and also surrounds the world’s highest-prevalence countries — Lesotho (22.9 percent prevalence rate) and Swaziland (27.4 percent prevalence rate). This year's conference, held in Durban June 9-12, will focus on "reflection, refocus and renewal" in the fight against AIDS.

Between 2005 and 2013, AIDS-related deaths in South Africa fell by 39 percent, but the country still accounts for nearly one in four new infections in sub-Saharan Africa, which makes this year’s conference the most important one yet.

MSH supports South Africa and sub-Saharan Africa in responding to the HIV epidemic by building the organizational and technical capacity of government departments and civil society organizations (CSOs), and strengthening local, national, and regional health systems.

MSH will also give four poster presentations:

  • Mind the gap – the missing link in monitoring & evaluation
  • Improving metrics to assess capacity improvements of CSOs providing HIV & AIDS services
  • Quality data for optimal CSO performance
  • Miles in their shoes: improving mobility, health, and social behavior of children in Lesotho (the results of an impact study in partnership with TOMS Shoes)

Exhibition booth and satellite sessions

MSH is hosting an exhibition booth (), featuring approaches, results, and tools for its work specific to South Africa and the region.

MSH Country Representative for South Africa, Bada Pharasi, will participate in a panel discussion at a satellite session, “Revitalizing Capacity Development for Sustainable Outcomes.”
