Great news for US-based viewers: The Discovery Channel Global Education Partnership (DCGEP) released the award-winning Pan-African feature film, Inside Story, on September 17 for digital download on platforms such as iTunes, Google Play, Comcast, and Amazon. Inside Story premiered in South Africa on World AIDS Day, December 1, 2011.

"Inside Story is making a huge impact on audiences across Africa and we are thrilled to bring this film and its unique approach to the US and the rest of the world," says DCGEP President and Executive Producer Aric Noboa. "Inside Story reveals HIV/AIDS in a way that’s personal, practical and memorable through a lens that is both entertaining and educational. Audiences stand up and cheer in the theater because it’s a great story, and at the same time everyone walks away with a fresh perspective on HIV.”

According to DCGEP: "At a recent screening in Zambia, 85 percent of participants said they had more knowledge of HIV/AIDS than before watching the film citing 'knowledge is power' as a key lesson learned. 95 percent said they are more likely to practice safe sex. After screenings, many viewers ask for copies to show their friends and families."

MSH has a particular fondness for Inside Story: we provided technical advice for the nitty-gritty science animations showing how the HIV virus is transmitted (more on our role here). But, don't worry--it's not just a science-focused film. Inside Story weaves HIV prevention messages ("knowledge is power") within a feature-length, scripted love story and soccer film.

"Inside Story is a key tool in our HIV prevention approach. We look forward to its widespread distribution, confident that its message and unique format will contribute positively to the regional HIV response. We plan to incorporate the movie’s screening and distribution in as many of our program areas and countries as possible," says Donald Harbick, project director of Building Local Capacity for Delivery of HIV Services in Southern Africa at MSH.

What makes this film so special? Director Rolie Nikiwe explains:
