Chief of Party
Sjoerd Postma is an internationally recognized expert in public health, systems, and institutional strengthening. With more than 25 years of experience, including 18 years in leadership positions, Sjoerd has focused on health systems strengthening and health sector development and reform, with an emphasis on primary health care and decentralization. His experience covers policy development, legislation, health service management, and planning and implementation of health programs at the national, intermediate, and operational levels in the public and nongovernmental sectors. He brings a wealth of experience and international best practices to adapt to the Liberian context. For example, when he was health policy and planning advisor to the government of the Eastern Cape Department of Health, he examined key issues in the organization of service delivery and developed an action plan to address major stumbling blocks. The results of that work persist today, as the basis for all health-sector development work in South Africa. Sjoerd holds an MA in health policy, planning and management for developing countries from the University of Leeds and an MSc in health service management and policy from the University of Rotterdam.
