Dr. Rudi Thétard has more than 25 years in clinical and health management experience in Africa, 17 of them managing or leading complex donor programs. Rudi is the chief of party (COP) for ONSE Health. He was previously the project director for the US$20-million USAID-funded African Strategies for Health Project. Prior to that, Rudi was COP for USAID’s Basic Survival for Institutionalizing Child Survival (BASICS) program in Malawi. As COP, Rudi oversaw implementation of the technical approach, which strengthened capacity to deliver an essential package of quality health services, supporting Malawi to reach MDG 4 (reduce child mortality), one of a few African nations to do so. Before that, he served as COP for the Malawi Reducing Childhood Morbidity and Strengthening Healthcare Systems Project, overseeing a team working in district-level capacity-building and health systems strengthening to broaden coverage and quality of the Essential Health Package. From South Africa, Rudi holds an MPH and an MB/ChB.
