Grace Mlava, technical director, Clinical, brings 15 years of public health service delivery program management experience with organizations in Malawi and Namibia. At UNICEF/Malawi, Grace contributed to the design, launch, and implementation of the community-based maternal, newborn, and child health program, taking it to scale across all 28 districts in Malawi. Grace was the Ministry of Health’s national coordinator for Community Maternal and Newborn Health and Adolescent Reproductive Health. She has served on national technical working groups, the Safe Motherhood subcommittee, and in Joint UN Cluster Meetings. She significantly contributed to the launch of Malawi’s call to action for “A Promise Renewed” and the development of the National Newborn Action Plan. From 2006-2008, Grace worked with district health management teams in three districts to pioneer the use of criterion-based maternal and neonatal death audits to improve quality of maternal, newborn, and child health care.
