Erik Schouten, MSc, MD, has more than 15 years of international public health experience. His areas of expertise include HIV & AIDS, epidemic response, humanitarian assistance, and pharmaceutical management. He is currently the Project Director for MSH’s District Health System Strengthening and Quality Improvement for Service Delivery (DHSS) project in Malawi. From 2011 to 2013 he was the Principal HIV Technical Advisor and Project Director Supervisor for the Strengthening TB and AIDS Response – Eastern Region (STAR-E) project. From 2003 to 2010, Dr. Schouten helped coordinate the national health sector’s response to HIV in Malawi by developing and implementing innovative approaches to antiretroviral therapy and prevention of mother-to-child transmission delivery mechanisms in resource poor settings. Prior to joining MSH, Dr. Schouten worked for several leading health organizations including the World Health Organization and Médecins Sans Frontières. He now serves as a key technical expert for MSH’s global HIV & AIDS programs.
