Senior Principal Technical Advisor
Elke Konings has more than 20 years of experience designing and leading large-scale public health programs in developing countries, particularly in Africa. She has worked with MSH since 1998, and she has been a senior principal technical advisor since in 2012. In this role she contributes technical expertise in HIV and AIDS, infectious diseases, and maternal and child health to improve health outcomes in developing countries. She previously served as the director for M&E and quality management in Ethiopia, focusing on programs for expanding HIV and AIDS services.
Elke has significant experience in capacity building and skills transfer to local teams, ministries of health, and other partners. Previously with MSH, she managed the design of large health projects including the REACH program in Afghanistan, HS2004 and HS2007 in Haiti, HIV/AIDS Care & Support Project in Ethiopia, the STRIDES for Family Health, and the STAR-E project in Uganda, among others. Before joining MSH, Elke worked as the resident advisor for reproductive health at the Population Council in Zambia and was project leader for the Institute of Tropical Medicine in Cote d'Ivoire, managing STI and AIDS prevention projects. She has also worked in Uganda and Tanzania. Elke holds a PhD in epidemiology from Imperial College, University of London, as well as an MSc in demography and a BSc in social anthropology from the London School of Economics.
