Senior Laboratory Technical Advisor
Alaine Umubyeyi Nyaruhirira has 19 years of combined experience as a lecturer, researcher, and public health professional. She is currently the senior laboratory advisor for MSH, providing technical support to the national laboratory network of many countries in sub-Saharan Africa to build capacity in implementing tuberculosis and HIV-related services. In this capacity, she has developed broad expertise in all TB lab-related matters, including QA/QC systems, data management and analysis, design of national sample transportation systems, development of training materials and standard operating procedures for new diagnostic techniques. Previously, she worked as researcher, PhD candidate and trainer on multidrug resistant tuberculosis and molecular epidemiology at the Institute of Tropical Medicine, Belgium and at the Columbia University Project (ICAP) in Rwanda. She holds a doctorate in biomedical and pharmaceutical sciences and a master's degree in public health from the Free University at Brussels, Belgium.
