ABC/VEN Software

ABC analysis is a powerful tool by which items are compared according to their annual usage, allowing the planner to prioritize the management of class A items (10-20% of items that account for 70-80% of funds spent) in selection and procurement decisions. VEN analysis is a system of setting priorities, in which drugs are classified according to their health impact: vital, essential, and non-essential. This software gives the user a structured way to conduct either or both processes. The program comes with a list of over 600 essential drugs, in order to reduce data entry requirements, and can process and store any number of data sets. This allows the user to compare, for example, 1996 data with 1997 data, or compare one region to another. This software was developed by MSH's USAID-funded Rational Pharmaceutical Management project.
