Peer to Peer community tracking as a tool for reducing defaulters and loss to follow up of HIV positive clients in a rural hospital in Northern Nigeria

This poster was produced by MSH staff for the International AIDS Conference in Vienna, Austria in July 2010. HIV infection requires long term care and support. In many sub Saharan African countries there has been a major challenge in retention of clients on HIV care and treatment. Therefore an innovative approach to patient retention is key to a successful HIV program. Peer to peer tracking and community based outreaches encourages HIV positive clients to self return to continue care and treatment as they were more contented with this approach, thus further enhancing patient retention in care and treatment.
