The Strengthening Pharmaceutical Systems (SPS) Program is working with one of its core partners, Logistics Management Institute (LMI), to improve Kenya Medical Supplies Agency’s (KEMSA) transparency and accountability in the health sector. By reducing rent-seeking opportunities, KEMSA can increase access to affordable health care.
Established in 2001 as the government’s pharmaceutical and commodity procurement and distribution agency, KEMSA has made progress, such as instituting direct monthly deliveries to facilities. Yet the agency continues to struggle with its responsibilities, resulting in a decline in confidence among the public health sector.
