RPM Plus will work with local and international counterparts to develop policies and strategies to improve both drug management and treatment of infectious diseases as well as to slow the emergence of antimicrobial resistance in Europe and Eurasia.
In collaboration with USAID's Europe/Eurasia Bureau, RPM Plus has established four long-term technical objectives for this region:
- Increase health practitioner understanding of prevention and management of infectious diseases
- Control hospital-acquired (nosocomial) infections
- Reduce antimicrobial resistance by decreasing the inappropriate use of antibiotics
- Help health management professionals improve health system performance
RPM Plus will design and implement a series of activities aimed at improving drug supply systems and drug use in vertical programs such as TB, HIV/AIDS, and oncology. The activities will include cross-border training in competitive drug procurement and development of standard bidding documents for the Ministries of Health of Romania and Moldova. RPM Plus will be collaborating with WHO, the International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease (IUATLD), and the World Bank.
