LeaderNet

What is LeaderNet?
As a global community of practice, LeaderNet is an invaluable resource for managers seeking to improve their leadership skills and facilitators of leadership and management programs in the health care field. A community of practice is a group of practitioners that regularly engage in sharing and learning in a specific technical area. It operates using both face-to-face meetings and through the Web, phone, and fax, depending on the needs of its members.

Why LeaderNet?
As the gateway to-and platform for-continuous learning, ongoing support, and peer exchange, LeaderNet allows for the process and support of leadership development to continue beyond the conclusion of a course or program. Members of LeaderNet have a place to stay connected to each other and trained facilitators, and to have access to relevant resources as they overcome their daily challenges and improve their situations and those of whom they serve. LeaderNet provides learning opportunities and support for its members through online resources, discussions, and several facilitated forums throughout the year.

Who can be a member of LeaderNet?
Members of LeaderNet include alumni of Management and Leadership programs from around the world, MSH staff, and trained facilitators. This includes graduates of M&L's Virtual Leadership Development Program (VLDP). Membership is being expanded this year to members of the Technical Cooperation Network (TCNetwork) and other professionals concerned with management and leadership in international health.

LeaderNet is currently available in Spanish and English.

What is the future of LeaderNet?
As we continue to grow the global community of practice, the diversity of our members will grow as well. We would like members to initiate, plan, and run their own discussions; give them the ability to generate content and develop their own leadership section to populate with stories and links; and ultimately, assume the sustainability of the site through their daily use of it.

History of LeaderNet

The pilot for LeaderNet was the Lidernet community of practice initiated in Ceará, Brazil. A collaboration between MSH's Management and Leadership (M&L) Program, the School of Public Health, and the Secretariat of Health, Lidernet was designed to provide graduates of face-to-face leadership development programs opportunities for ongoing learning and exchange through a website and moderated email discussion groups.
