Degu Jerene is a medical doctor and public health expert who brings over 16 years of technical experience and leadership to HEAL TB. Prior to joining the project in January 2014, Degu worked as director for clinical programs with the Johns Hopkins/CDC/PEPFAR HIV program in Ethiopia. There he played a key role in supporting the implementation of a multi-million dollar project in four regions of the country.
Dereje Habte is a medical doctor with over 20 years of experience as a clinician, trainer, researcher and health manager. As director of M&E and operations research for HEAL TB, Dereje is responsible for the development and management of a project-wide M&E system. He designs and implements operational research, conducts data analysis, and prepares articles for publication.
Yohannes Molla is a medical doctor with over 15 years of experience as a clinician, trainer, and health project manager. As MDR-TB advisor for HEAL TB, Yohannes is responsible for the implementation of programmatic and clinical management of MDR-TB and provides technical support and capacity building. He is also responsible for contributing to TB control efforts at all levels, with a special emphasis on MDR-TB.
Solomon Negash is a public health professional with over 25 years of experience as a clinician and health manager. He has served as regional project manager for HEAL TB since 2012, where he coordinates and implements project interventions between HEAL TB and the government.
Muluken Melese Aseresa is a medical doctor and a public health professional with over two decades of clinical, project management, and research experience in Ethiopia. From 2007 to 2011 he was the technical director for MSH’s HIV/AIDS Care and Support Project (HCSP). Since 2011, he has served as the chief of party for MSH’s Help Ethiopia Address Low Tuberculosis (HEAL TB) project.
Jemal Seid is a medical microbiologist with over 15 years of experience as a laboratory manager, lecturer, researcher, and program advisor. As senior laboratory expert for HEAL TB, he directs and coordinates the overall TB laboratory system strengthening and supports the implementation of laboratory quality management systems, quality assurance, and TB laboratory accreditation.
Gudeta Tibesso is a medical doctor and clinical laboratory expert with over 21 years of experience in public health laboratory program management and disease outbreak investigations. As senior laboratory expert for HEAL TB, he designed an external quality assessment scheme and developed quality assurance and safety policies for microscopy centers, GenXpert, and TB culture labs.
Senior Clinical Advisor for Pediatric Tuberculosis
Yared Tadesse, MD, is a medical doctor specializing in pediatrics and child health. He has nearly two decades of experience as a clinician and program management in the area of HIV/AIDS and TB. Currently, he is the senior pediatric clinical advisor for HEAL TB, providing technical support to the Federal Ministry of Health, including the regional health bureaus and health facilities.
Mulu Legesse is a pharmacist and a public health professional with over 14 years of experience in public health. He has extensive experience in the pharmaceutical supply chain, logistics management information system, and monitoring and evaluation. Since September 2011, he has been the senior TB drug management coordinator for HEAL TB.
Asfaw Ayalew brings over 23 years of public, private, and NGO experience in the Ethiopian health care system to his role as senior technical advisor for TB infection control. In this role, Asfaw provides technical leadership on TB infection control in HEAL TB-supported regions.
