With Jeffrey Sachs, Ariel Pablos-Mendez and other Leaders from Civil Society and Government

  • Tuesday, September 24, 2013; 12:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. Eastern Time
  • Rockefeller Foundation
  • 420 Fifth Ave (between 37th and 38th Streets), New York, NY 10018

Join Jeffrey Sachs of Columbia University, Ariel-Pablos Mendez of USAID and a diverse range of leaders from civil society and government for a discussion on the role of universal health coverage (UHC) in the post-Millennium Development Goal framework.

With a billion people worldwide unable to obtain modern healthcare and 100 million every year forced into poverty by out-of-pocket health costs, the arguments for improving access and affordability have never been stronger. Meanwhile, UHC is gaining ground in developing countries around the world, aiming to deliver a basic set of quality health services to every person and reduce financial hardship.

Speakers at the event will explore the need for UHC efforts and their transformative impact. The panel will consider how a post-2015 UHC target can help drive improvements in priority health areas like communicable and chronic disease, maternal and child survival. While the United Nations meets to envision the future of development, the event will spotlight the growing consensus that UHC represents the path towards a healthier future for all.

Sponsored by Management Sciences for Health (MSH), Rockefeller Foundation, and Permanent Mission of Thailand to the United Nations, in coordination with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and International Medical Corps. A light lunch will be included. RSVP required due to security. See additional media resources listed below.
