Cambridge, MA
MSH's Leadership, Management & Sustainability Program (LMS) hosts a LeaderNet online seminar on professionalization in health care management.
LeaderNet, a community of practice for managers who lead and facilitators of management and leadership programs, conducts quarterly discussions on key management issues.
This seminar will focus on the Occasional Paper recently published by LMS, "An Urgent Call to Professionalize Leadership and Management in Health Care Worldwide". One of the lead authors and doctors quoted in the paper will facilitate discussions. The seminar will take place in English and Spanish. Register for free and participate in the forum by visiting the LeaderNet site.
Discussion questions for this seminar are:
- Who are the health care managers in settings where you work and what kinds of challenges are they facing?
- For managers who are doctors or nurses, in addition to the traditional clinical and nursing care duties they have always had, what are the things they need to be good at in order to succeed?
- What preparation do doctors, nurses, and others in health care management positions need to effectively face leadership and management challenges? In your opinion, are they getting the preparation they need?
- The Occasional Paper makes a number of recommendations for the way forward. How could you put some of these recommendations into action in your work? What other thoughts do you have about how to move towards the goal of all current and future health mangers are well prepared to lead and manage to achieve results?
