New Report Documents Achievements of Bolivian Sexual and Reproductive Health NGO
Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is pleased to announce the availability of a new report “CIES: An Organizational Change Experience,” documenting the institutional strengthening and service delivery improvements at Bolivia’s Center for Research, Education and Services.
For more than 20 years, the Center for Research, Education and Services (known locally as Centro de Investigación, Educación y Servicios or CIES) has played a leading role in the promotion of and access to sexual and reproductive health services for the Bolivian population. Under the USAID-funded Leadership, Management and Sustainability Program, MSH provided technical assistance to CIES between October 2006 and June 2010, to improve its financial sustainability and strengthen its institutional capacity. As a result, CIES has undergone significant changes over the past four years.
To document these changes, CIES and MSH collaboratively developed “CIES: An Organizational Change Experience – Strengthening Management and the Delivery of Clinical and Educational Sexual and Reproductive Health Services.” This technical document captures the experiences related CIES’ principal achievements in the areas of institutional positioning; financial sustainability; improvement of service quality; replication of its model; and administrative and operational decentralization.
Health leaders and managers working in the nongovernmental organization section will find this report a useful resource as they plan, develop and implement their own organizational strengthening interventions. Now available in English and Spanish, the report presents the tools and methodologies used throughout the organizational change process as well as lessons learned, conclusions and recommendations. It includes a CD-ROM with supplementary information.
Funding for the report was provided by USAID/Bolivia under MSH’s Leadership, Management and Sustainability Program.
