21st International AIDS Conference
More than 20 MSH staff members will be participating in the 21st International AIDS Conference held July 18-22 in Durban, South Africa. MSH will present 15 posters and 2 oral presentations.
Strengthening health systems is the core of MSH's response to the HIV epidemic. We build the capacity of public and private sector organizations to implement innovative HIV, prevention, care and treatment interventions in over 35 countries. Our work addresses all elements of the health system: service delivery; leadership and governance; medical products and pharmaceuticals, vaccines and technologies; health financing; health information and human resources. We decentralize care- from federal to local-to increase access to quality services. We integrate HIV care with other disease programming.
MSH integrates HIV and AIDS services into TB, family planning, maternal and child health, and other programs – which increases treatment adherence and results in holistic care. HIV and TB program integration is especially important, as TB is the most prevalent cause of death in people with HIV. TB and HIV have a synergistic effect, and if not treated together, can increase the rate of TB drug resistance and AIDS-related deaths.
