MSH Announces New Vice President for its Office of Strategic Development and Communications
January 27, 2012 - Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is pleased to announce the new Vice President of MSH’s Office of Strategic Development and Communications (SDC), Shannon England, effective January 9, 2012.
Ms. England will lead MSH’s external relations activities around the globe. This will include forging or strengthening relationships with public and private donors, the corporate sector, governments and partners and formulating the appropriate communication and development strategies. She will also provide leadership and direction for strengthening MSH’s public policy and advocacy initiatives.
Before joining MSH, Ms. England served as the Director of Business Development at Population Services International (PSI), in Washington, D.C. Under Ms. England’s leadership, PSI met or exceeded its fundraising goals for three consecutive years, submitting more than 300 proposals and winning more than $2 billion in new awards from a diverse base of donors including USAID, DFID, Global Fund and large foundations.
Prior to her role as Director of Business Development, Ms. England served as the Deputy Director for New Business Development for two years, where she gained experience writing and leading large proposals for several major donors. Ms. England also served as a Senior Program Manager for PSI’s Asia Region, where she managed over 75 projects in AIDS prevention, family planning, and maternal and child health in seven Asian countries. She also provided technical and programmatic support for family planning social marketing projects that delivered over 2,600,000 couple-years of protection annually.
As Technical Advisor for HIV/AIDS, she led a team that developed a new HIV/AIDS stigma reduction and advocacy media campaign for use in the Southern Africa region featuring the first President of Zambia. Additionally, she wrote HIV/AIDS proposals that delivered over $6 million in new business for PSI in Zambia. Additionally, she helped lead PSI’s efforts to expand into service provision of voluntary counseling and testing for HIV, growing the portfolio of country programs implementing high quality programs from 16 to 21.
Ms. England holds a Master’s degree in Public Health, with a focus on Health Behavior & Health Education, from the University of Michigan School of Public Health.
