MSH Selected as a Devex Top 40 Innovator
The Most Innovative International Development Organizations Named
April 22, 2011- Washington, D.C. — Management Sciences for Health (MSH) has been selected as a Devex Top 40 Development Innovator based on a poll of thousands of Devex members, who collectively comprise one of the largest networks of global aid and international development professionals.
"Solving the big global challenges we face – from climate change to poverty – will require innovation,” Devex President Raj Kumar said. “We are proud to honor these 40 organizations that are leveraging innovative techniques and approaches to solve complex problems.”
“MSH is honored to be chosen as one of Devex’s Top 40 Innovators,” said Jonathan D. Quick, MD, MPH, President and Chief Executive Officer of MSH. “In our work with governments and communities to build stronger health systems , we strive to innovate health service delivery, management of medicines, and health financing to move closer to the goal of universal health coverage in developing countries.”
The Top 40 Innovators were honored at the Devex Innovators Forum at the House of Sweden in Washington, DC on April 21st with Chris Thomas, Chief Strategist at Intel and Sonal Shah, White House Director of Social Innovation, as featured speakers. During the Forum, Dr. Quick observed that, "Much of the discussion here has been about product and technology innovation. But in global health we need a paradigm for systems innovation: creating new ways of achieving large-scale widespread using of existing lifesaving medicine, vaccines, and other health technologies." He cited the examples of "innovation of meaning" to achieve rapid increases in contraceptive use in Afghanistan by focusing on healthy spacing and timing of pregnancy and "innovation of synthesis" to empower youth AIDS prevention peer educators in Haiti by blending the best of business school leadership practices with the realities of post-earthquake tent camps.
Devex announced the Top 40 Development Innovators April 18th on Facebook at www.facebook.com/devex. The Devex Top 40 Development Innovators include four types of international development organizations: donor agencies & foundations, development consulting companies, implementing NGOs, and advocacy groups. The Devex Top 40 Development Innovators were chosen based on a poll of more than 2,000 aid workers who participated in a Devex survey last month.
All honorees will be recognized at a reception at the House of Sweden in Washington, DC on April 21st with Chris Thomas, Chief Strategist at Intel and Sonal Shah, White House Director of Social Innovation as featured speakers.
