Fostering Change in Health in East, Central, and Southern Africa

Project Date: 2009

The Fostering Change in Health in East, Central and Southern Africa project is a small grant from Johnson & Johnson in order to conduct a workshop on fostering change to scale up effective health services with the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community. The purpose of the Fostering Change in Health project is to strengthen the ability of the East, Central and Southern Africa Health Community (ECSA-HC) to integrate fostering change approaches into their work and into the work of their partners and member countries. Additional funding was provided by the World Health Organization and USAID/Africa Bureau through the Leadership, Management and Sustainability Program to support participating teams from five ECSA-HC member countries (Kenya, Swaziland, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zimbabwe) in the workshop. It was conducted in July 2009. During the workshop, teams developed action plans to introduce a reproductive health/family planning best practice into their own setting for the country teams and a management best practice for ECSA. The workshop is being followed up with surveys of the participants in February 2010 and August 2010 to determine progress on their action plans and how they have incorporated fostering change into their other work.
