ICIUM 2011 Has Begun!

Over 500 people have gathered today in Antalya, Turkey, for the 2011 International Conference for Improving Use of Medicines, also known as ICIUM 2011.

The conference, which will be held through November 18, will focus on "Informed Strategies, Effective Policies, Lasting Solutions."

Management Sciences for Health (MSH) is one of eight organizing partners for the conference -- along with the World Health Organization (WHO), the Health Economics and Policy Association, the Harvard Department of Population Medicine, Boston School of Public Health, INRUD, Karolinska Institutet, the Turkish Ministry of Health, and the Turkey General Directorate of Pharmaceuticals and Pharmacy.

The organizing partners have set ambitious goals for this year's conference: to "produce a review of medicines-use initiatives, an expert consensus on successful interventions, strategies for translating interventions into policy and improving their sustainability, and a global research agenda."

The conference will be live webcast. (Registration to watch is free, but you do need to sign up.) Note that local time is Eastern European Time (EET) -- GMT + 2.00.

Some plenary sessions may be recorded and available later for viewing on YouTube.
