  About REACH

REACH collaborators

MSH collaborates with many partners to implement REACH in Afghanistan. Subcontractors and their activities include:

  • Academy for Educational Development (AED)—responsible for health education and behavior change communication in Afghanistan to improve the ability of individuals, families, and communities to protect their health;

  • JHPIEGO—implements the Safe Motherhood Initiative which includes training trainers of Afghan midwives at both the community and hospital level. Infection prevention, family planning, and emergency obstetrics care are special topics of focus in this training;

  • Technical Assistance Incorporated (TAI)—undertakes training for all community-based health outreach initiatives including training of trainers of Afghan community health workers and community leaders;

  • University of Massachusetts/Amherst—provides accelerated health-based literacy training in Afghanistan to qualify Afghan women to become community health workers as well as to enter community midwifery schools.

Other important partners in Afghanistan are the Afghan Ministry of Public Health at the central and provincial levels and the REACH international and Afghan NGO grantees.
