Village health worker educating mother MSH Mission

MSH works collaboratively with health care policymakers, managers, providers, and consumers to help close the gap between what is known about public health problems and what is done to solve them. MSH seeks to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of health services by improving management systems, promoting access to services, and influencing public policy.

MSH activities focus on:
  • educating health care managers, providers, and consumers through technical assistance, training, publications, electronic media, and conferences;

  • applying practical management skills to public health problems in the public and private sector;

  • strengthening the technical, management, and leadership capabilities of individuals and institutions through collaborative work and training programs;

  • applying and replicating innovations in health management.
To support this mission, MSH is committed to:
  • a staff recognized for technical excellence, integrity, and dedication;

  • collaboration with colleagues and institutions on the basis of mutual respect and shared goals;

  • a professionally stimulating and supportive working environment.
MSH is organized around three centers
  • The Center for Health Programs uses proven interventions to prevent or control illness and mortality from common diseases such as malaria, tuberculosis, AIDS, pneumonia, and diarrhea. CHP works with ministries of health, local governments, the private sector, and nongovernmental and civil society organizations to develop systems and build management capacity. CHP works to expand access to services to efficiently reach those in need and at a scale to attain public health impact.

  • The Center for Leadership and Management works with health managers at all levels to develop high-performing health organizations and programs, and to improve the capabilities of managers to lead teams and achieve results. The Center also works with national programs to coordinate multisectoral strategies and develop overall human capacity. Innovative electronic technologies reinforce our direct technical assistance in leadership and management.

  • The Center for Pharmaceutical Management works to improve access to essential medicines and medical products and ensure the effective use of these products. More than 75 MSH drug management professionals work with partners around the world to strengthen the systems needed to select, purchase, store, deliver, and use high-quality essential medicines.

These areas overlap and draw on each other to provide professional and comprehensive assistance that meets the diverse needs of government agencies and other organizations.
