For more than three decades, MSH has worked in over 140 countries to help solve pressing health problems. MSH works collaboratively with health care policymakers, managers, providers, and consumers to help close the gap between what is known about public health problems and what is done to solve them. MSH seeks to increase the effectiveness, efficiency, and sustainability of health services by improving management systems, promoting access to services, and influencing public policy. The result is higher-quality health care for the people who need it the most.

Because of MSH's work, more children have survived infancy, fewer mothers have died in childbirth, more lifesaving drugs have been made available, and more families have been given a choice about the number of children they will have and when they will have them.

MSH is organized around three technical centers focusing on specific areas of expertise. These centers draw on each other to provide professional and comprehensive assistance that meets the diverse needs of our donors and other organizations.

The Center for Health Services works with ministries of health, local governments, the private sector, and nongovernmental and civil society organizations to strengthen the delivery of health care. We develop systems and build management capacity to support the delivery of lifesaving public health services. We address geographic and financial barriers to care using innovative approaches such as community financing, community case management, public-private collaborations, and performance-based contracting for services.

The Center for Leadership and Management works with health managers at all levels to develop high-performing health organizations and programs, and to improve the capabilities of managers to lead teams and achieve results. The Center also works with national programs to coordinate multisectoral strategies and develop overall human capacity. Innovative electronic technologies reinforce our direct technical assistance in leadership and management.

The Center for Pharmaceutical Management works to improve access to essential medicines and medical products and ensure the effective use of these products. More than 75 MSH drug management professionals work with partners around the world to strengthen the systems needed to select, purchase, store, deliver, and use high-quality essential medicines.
